Student presentation explores cannabis industry structure and concerns about competition

The final week of my Marijuana Law and Policy seminar at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law will include three concluding student presentations on the students’ selected research topics. Students continue to provide here a brief summary and some background reading for their classmates about their planned presentation, and here is the first summary post with links for this coming week’s first presentation:

My presentation will discuss competition issues in legal cannabis markets, specifically why these issues arise and how they affect consumers. As a recent example of the issues that can arise, I will briefly outline Dave Yost’s antitrust suit that was filed against several MSOs. I will explain why I believe antitrust law may not be sufficient to tackle these competition issues, but that federal rescheduling may help alleviate them.
